FAQ

Can you take FIT and SKIN together?

Ideally, both products should not be taken together. If you do wish to do so, we recommend taking SIRO Collagen FIT (3 scoops) on the day of your workout/exercise session and SIRO Collagen SKIN (2 scoops or 1 shot) on the other days. We recommend taking both formulas as part of your morning routine.

What is the difference between marine (SKIN) and bovine (FIT)?

Fish collagen and bovine collagen are both forms of collagen, a protein important for skin, joints, and connective tissue. The main difference lies in the source and properties.

Fish collagen: is extracted from the scales, mucous membranes, and bones of fish, usually from fish remains. It is often considered beneficial because it is easily absorbed by the body (high bioavailability) and has a lower allergenic potential. Fish collagen primarily contains type I collagen, which is found in large quantities in skin, hair, nails, and bone tissue. Thanks to its smaller and more uniform molecular size, fish collagen is absorbed quickly and efficiently by the body, making it particularly suitable for supporting healthy and smooth skin and reducing wrinkles.

Bovine collagen: comes from the skin, bones, and connective tissues of livestock, usually cattle. It primarily contains type I and type III collagen, which also contribute to skin and muscle growth. Bovine collagen consists of a mix of type I and type III collagen. Type III is primarily found in connective tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and muscles. These collagen fibers have a different structure and function, namely supporting and strengthening tissues under tension. Bovine collagen is therefore often used to repair and strengthen these connective tissues.

What is included in the FIT and what is it good for?

The SiRo Collagen FIT contains 15 grams of collagen peptides (bovine), 120 mg of vitamin C, calcium, vitamin D, and manganese. We've added vitamin C to our collagen supplement because it helps naturally produce collagen and also supports our immunity. Calcium contributes to the strength of our bone structure. The sunshine vitamin D is a precursor to calcium and, in turn, also contributes to stronger bones. Manganese helps maintain our connective tissue.

What is in the SKIN and what is it good for?

SiRo Collagen SKIN contains 10 grams of collagen peptides (marine), 80 mg of vitamin C, selenium, zinc, and copper. The collagen supports firmer and more elastic skin. Vitamin C is added for optimal absorption of our collagen peptide and will also support our immunity. Zinc and selenium contribute to stronger nails and shiny hair. Copper, in turn, contributes to improved pigmentation of our hair and skin.

I can't find my spoon in the jar, what should I do?

The spoon is always inside the jar. Due to the transport process, it may no longer be visible from above the powder. Stirring the powder briefly with a longer object (e.g., a knife) will quickly reveal the spoon.

Can I take collagen during pregnancy?

The answer here is a resounding YES. Since collagen is a naturally occurring protein, it's certainly safe to take it during pregnancy. However, we do recommend continuing to take it after pregnancy, as it benefits skin firmness and elasticity.

How long does it take for collagen to take effect?

Scientifically speaking, the effects only become apparent after 56 days, or about two months. Ideally, a three-month course of treatment, followed by a week to allow your body to return to homeostasis, is recommended. Clinically, we see and hear that results are achieved more quickly. In people with joint pain, we see pain reduction after just one week of taking collagen. We also see that some people's skin looks brighter after just one month. We always recommend combining this with a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet.

Why powder form?

Powder is the easiest way to get enough collagen. We always assume a minimum of 10 grams of collagen peptides because science shows there's a significant difference between consuming 5 grams and 10 grams of collagen per day. You can also use 10 grams in a liquid form, but they're generally much more expensive to buy because you have to work with each bottle. In pill form, it's very difficult to get 10 grams of collagen because you would have to take 10 1g tablets every day. That's why powder is the first choice.

Can I combine collagen with other supplements and vitamins?

Yes, that's definitely possible. You can combine collagen with Omega-3s, for example, or with Vitamin D. With SiRo, we've tried to always add enough Vitamin C to meet your recommended daily intake. SKIN and FIT also contain extra minerals that are beneficial for the skin and tendons, joints, and ligaments, respectively.

Where can I recycle my pot?

You can recycle your SiRo container in a blue PMD bag. The Dutch company Corex, who packaged our containers, assured us of this.

What is the difference between whey and collagen?

Whey protein and collagen both consist of different amino acids, so that's where the main difference lies. Collagen consists primarily of the essential amino acids proline, glycine, and hydroxyproline. Whey protein consists primarily of the essential amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine. The latter three are primarily found in muscles, which is why whey protein shakes are often used after exercise to strengthen muscles or aid recovery. The essential amino acids found in collagen are primarily found in skin, tendons, cartilage, ligaments, and joints.

Are there side effects of collagen and will I gain weight from collagen?

Collagen is a naturally occurring protein in the body, so there are normally no side effects from supplementing with it. However, it's best to always read the precautions on the packaging to be sure. If you don't exceed the recommended serving size, you won't gain weight from taking collagen.

What is marine collagen?

Marine collagen, or fish collagen, is extracted from the bones and skin of fish. Fish collagen from wild-caught fish is the purest form of collagen and can therefore be processed into supplements, powders, and liquids. Our source of fish collagen is Naticol, known for its bioactive and bioavailable, naturally derived marine collagen peptides. These peptides are primarily derived from the collagen type most abundant in the human body: type 1 collagen.

Naticol is extracted from fish skin and then made bioavailable through a unique process developed specifically by Weishardt. This process consists of two steps: collagen extraction, followed by targeted enzymatic hydrolysis. Therefore, our product has a unique collagen peptide profile derived from fish bones and skin. Its main benefits are focused on improving skin beauty and elasticity and supporting an active lifestyle.

What is Bovine Collagen?

Bovine collagen is extracted from the bones of cattle. Our source of bovine collagen is SOLUGEL®; these collagen peptide supplements are composed of high-quality collagen peptides obtained from natural animal sources (bovine collagen peptides). By enzymatically breaking down proteins into smaller peptides, bioactive SOLUGEL® is obtained, which is easily absorbed by the human body. As an easily digestible protein free of sugar, fat, cholesterol, and carbohydrates, SOLUGEL® offers a range of potential health benefits, such as healthy joints, healthy aging, and beautiful skin.

With the right dosage, spread over time, collagen peptides can contribute to the healthy functioning of your body. Moreover, the benefits of SOLUGEL® are also clinically proven: with its long-lasting satiating effect, SOLUGEL® is an ideal protein source for significantly improving the elasticity, firmness, and hydration of various tissues (tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and even skin) after just 56 days of use.

Can I overdose on collagen?

Collagen is a naturally occurring protein, so even if you consume too much, it will still find its way into various tissues throughout our body. However, we do, of course, recommend not exceeding the recommended servings of collagen.
